David Patrick Langley, age 44, suddenly passed away on Sunday evening, December 5, at his skilled nursing facility in Clearfield, Utah, where he was recovering and rehabilitating from injuries sustained in the June 29, 2021 multi-vehicle crash in Kaysville, Utah that also claimed the lives of his wife and father-in-law, and seriously injured his mother-in-law.
Dave was a beloved husband, son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, son-in-law, brother-in-law, co-worker, neighbor, and friend. He was well-liked and well-respected, and also well-known for his almost constant smile and infectious giggle, his "dry" sense of humor and his quick wit that usually added one-liners to most any discussion, frequently paired with an affectionate and entertaining impression of a friend, family member, or film line.
David was preceded in death by his dear wife of 3 1/2 years, Ariana (Aria) Elise Cotler; father-in-law, Stephen L. Cotler; grandfathers, Walter Butler and John Langley; twin uncles, Gary Wayne and Jerry DeWayne Langley; and Aunts, Jeanne Butler and Denise Langley.
David is survived by his parents, Greg and Joyce Langley, older brother Matthew Langley, and sister-in-law Rita Langley, all of San Jose, CA; his grandmothers, Edith Butler and Florabell Langley; Uncles, Alan Butler(JeriLyn), Stephen Butler (Linda), and Rodney Langley; Aunts, Linda Langley Michna (Ken) and Cynthia Langley Covey. He is also survived by maternal cousins, Ryan Butler, Ross Butler, Marcus Butler, Sara Butler Gantz, Leah Butler, and Chris Butler; paternal cousins, Journey Michna, Chase Michna, Jason Langley, and Alisha Covey Metcalf; and an extended family of in-laws: mother-in-law, Ann Mahoney; sisters-in-law, Abigail Cotler Bowling (Jack), Emily Cotler, Julie Cotler Pottinger (Paul), Kerry Brodersen (Jason), and Julie Higgins; brothers-in-law Zachary Cotler and Matt Higgins; nephews, Ethan, Henry, and Matthew; and nieces Miranda, Rhiannon, and Zoe.
David was born in San Jose, early Thursday morning on November 3, 1977. He graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1996. He was enrolled in the Jr. Firefighter volunteer programs in both the San Jose Fire Department and Milpitas Fire Department. Dave attended Mission College in Santa Clara, CA, where he studied fire science and also received his certificate as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). He particularly enjoyed participating in an ice hockey league between rival firefighters and police officers.
Dave later became a California State licensed scale & weighing device technician at ABM Scale Inc. in Morgan Hill, CA, and in 2014 left to join the Santa Clara County Parks & Recreation Department, where he worked as a Rangemaster 1 at the Metcalf Shooting Range.
In October 2016, Dave and Aria left Morgan Hill for Salt Lake City, and settled in Murray, Utah, where, in November 2017, he began working at the State Capitol Building and other state complexes. He advanced to the position of Journey Maintenance Specialist at the Department of Facilities Construction and Maintenance, working with such agencies as the Capitol Preservation Board. Dave was well-known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to help others. At each of his jobs, Dave was well liked by supervisors, co-workers, and customers and is still fondly remembered. A recent employer stated that Dave's goal each workday was "to learn something new, and teach something new."
Dave and Aria were married on January 8, 2018, the 8th anniversary of their first date. In April of 2018 they purchased a home in Bountiful, Utah, where they resided with their beloved dog, Michelle, until June 29, 2021.
Dave's interests focused on relaxing at home with Aria and Michelle, working on home projects, grilling favorite foods, exploring local nature areas, as well as listening to music, playing his guitar, enjoying in home movies, and competing in multi-player video games.
Dave was always quick to help others out when a need arose: helping neighbors, friends, and strangers. He was a true and loyal friend who would have your back, and will never be forgotten for his kind acts and generosity. We encourage you all to share your "Dave" memories on this website.
Services for David are pending at this time, and tentatively scheduled for early February 2022.
