

Dixie was born September 23, 1937 in Park City, Utah to Edwin P. and Beulah Mae Vibbert Lowder. She was the second of their 5 children. She grew up on a sugar beet farm in Homedale, Idaho where she worked on the land. She graduated from BYU in social work and worked in Salt Lake City. While living there, she met Lowell Ross Smith at a dance. They were happily married on May 24, 1962 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
They continued to live in Salt Lake City where Dixie ran the Little Ute Campus day care center. They were blessed with 6 children. Dixie worked hard raising her children. Dixie always had a hot breakfast for them before school. She cooked and sewed with great talent. As her children grew older, she worked as a successful businesswoman. She loved to host “granny camp” for her grandchildren where many fond memories were made. Dixie loved vacationing with family in Montana and Lake Powell.
Dixie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many ways including temple worker, Primary president, Relief Society president and Stake Relief Society president. By her service to others she showed her love to them and her dedication to the Lord.
She is survived by five children, Sandra Taylor (Doug), Daren Smith (Ann), Gordon Smith (Frances), Michael Smith (Tiffany), Steven Smith (Tara), 22 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by four siblings, Lynda Freund (Richard), Eddie Lowder (Christy), Jeanne Nelson (Dave) and RuthAnn Ensley (Kevin). Preceded in death by her parents, husband (Lowell), daughter (Sheri), and brother (Larry).
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 10 a.m., at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park Chapel, 3401 S. Highland Dr, Millcreek, Utah. A viewing will precede the service from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
