Douglas Richard “Rick” Dorius, beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend, quietly passed away the morning of Tuesday, May 14, 2024, in Mesa, Arizona. He was 69 years of age, born on May 27, 1954. His parents Dr. J. Byron and Mildred Dorius of Artesia, California, preceded him in death.
A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was married and sealed to his sweetheart, Ruth Edwards, in the Salt Lake Temple, on December 27, 1995. Their eternal commitment to one another and their shared love continually sustained him. Were he here to give expression to his deepest thoughts and sentiments, he would share his undying gratitude to his beloved Ruth for her tender care and loving-kindness, particularly in the final months of his life. Perfectly matched and suited to one another, he would want her to know that marrying her was his greatest accomplishment and greatest joy in life.
Rick trained in architecture, landscape architecture and drafting and worked in those fields for a portion of his life. He loved music and played guitar with the best of them. He was a fan of everything rock and roll and frequently enjoyed attending live concerts of his musical idols.
To say he never met a stranger would be an understatement. Warm greetings and easy conversation were his hallmark. He relished the association with his extended family. Easy to smile, and even quicker to laugh, his self-deprecating sense of humor helped him through many a challenging time. His wit, charm and presence will be sorely missed.
Rick is survived by his wife, Ruth Edwards Dorius; sister, Patricia Franks (Richard); brother, J. Scott Dorius (Rebecca); sister, Suzy Sorensen (Scott); twelve nieces and nephews; and twenty-seven grandnieces and grandnephews.
Funeral services will be held to honor the life of Douglas Richard “Rick” Dorius at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 11677 Grandville Avenue, South Jordan, Utah84009.
