

Douglas Edward Thomsen, 84, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully, on February 29, 2016, at his home in Salt Lake City. He was born October 26, 1931, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Douglas "Pete" Thomsen and Ellen Lucile McCleery Thomsen.
He attended Hawthorne Elementary, Irving Jr High and South High School. He received his BS degree in Industrial Psychology from the University of Utah in 1957. He served in the U. S. Army from 1950- 1957. After returning from Korea, he married his sweetheart, LoRie Handley, for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on September 1, 1955. After graduating from the University of Utah, he worked for Boeing Company, leaving in 1969, to return to Utah where he became Director of Human Resources for Salt Lake County, retiring in 1993.
He served faithfully in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Bishop of the South Cottonwood 2nd Ward, Veil Worker and Supervisor at the Jordan River Temple and as a Host at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. He was also an outstanding Scoutmaster and loved by his Scouts.
Doug and LoRie served several L.D.S. Missions. The Massachusetts Boston Mission, Temple Square Concert Series, Sandy Dry Pack, Sandy L.D.S. Employment Center, and a full time live-at-home mission at the L.D.S. Humanitarian Center, fulfilling these service opportunities with love and integrity.
Survived by his wife, LoRie, sons Douglas Randal (Mary) Thomsen and Duane Scott Thomsen and daughter Debra Lyn Thomsen Grant, 10 grandchildren: Douglas, Weston, Christopher, Ryan, Danielle, Andrew and Emma Thomsen, Shelzy Riches, Kendal & Wayne Hatch and one great grandson, Anthony Rios, sisters Carolyn (Kreg) Kirkham, Virginia (John) Jorgensen and brother Richard (Connie) Thomsen. Preceded in death by his parents and daughter Laurel Ann Thomsen.
Funeral services to be held Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at 11 a.m. Farm Hill Ward, 1250 E. 4800 South (Murray Holladay Road), Salt Lake City, UT, 84117. Viewings will be Monday March 7, 2016, at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Mortuary from 6-8 p.m., 3401 South & Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, UT, 84106, and again one hour prior to services at the Farm Hill Ward.
