

Edgar Ellis Martindale returned home to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday January 21st At the age of 86 He was a loving son, husband, father, Grandfather, great grandfather and great, great grandfather. Edgar was born on December 7, 1927 to Alvin and LaPreal Martindale of Hollywood Ca. The family moved from California to Salt Lake in 1941. Edgar graduated from Granite high school in 1945. He married Lilia Pack in 1946. They were blessed with six children. Daughters Christine, Lisa (Hansen), Lynette, (Sanjurjosalgado), Karen and sons Stephen, and Douglas. Ed married Barbara Lee Candland 1984 and shared 13 happy years before she succumbed to cancer. Edgar was preceded in death by wife Barbara-Lee, one daughter, Karen, a son, Douglas and a brother Clarance (Buck). He also leaves his wife Joann, and a very large extended family who love him dearly. A brother Don, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great -great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In 2001 Ed married Joann Gingras for all time and eternity in the South Jordan Temple. They have shared 14 years of joy and happiness together. Edgar served in the Navy during World ll. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints, and served in many auxiliaries of the church. He was a man of honor, integrity and faith. Words will never describe how great a man Ed was. His sense of humor was always one of his best qualities; there was never a story without a joke in it. Ed’s life was centered around the restored gospel, and the eternal nature of families. Ed was a loving and kind friend to all that knew him. His noble character and example will be missed by all. For over thirty years Ed was very active in the AA and the AL- ANON programs He also served as a Chaplin at the Highland Ridge Recovery Program, where he touched many lives. One of our favorite quotes describes who Ed was by Elizabeth Kubler-Ross. “The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known loss known struggle, and have found their way out of the depths. These persons have an appreciation, sensitivity, and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness and a deep loving concern. Beautiful people just don’t happen”. A viewing in Eds’ honor will be held on Monday, January 27th from 6-8 pm at Wasatch Lawn Memorial, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake, Utah. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 28th with a viewing from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the LDS Stake center located at 10163 South 1100 West. His interment will follow at Holladay Memorial located at 4900 South Memory Lane, Holladay, Utah.Arrangements under the direction of Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, Salt Lake City, UT.
