Edward Garrett

“Called to a Higher Court”

Our loving husband, dad and grandpa passed peacefully on October 30, 2010. Edward Garrett was born in Salt Lake City on February 17, 1927 to Edward Day and Elsie Meikle Garrett. He married Lillian Gardner on May 5, 1949. They enjoyed 61 years together.

Ed attended West High School, and then joined the Army where he served in the Philippines during World War II. He attended the University of Utah and graduated from the law school in 1951 with a JD degree. Ed practiced law in Salt Lake City for nearly 60 years. He had a passion for the law and took up the cause whenever he saw a case of injustice. He was a member of Sherman Christensen Inns of Court.

Family came first in Ed’s life. His children and grandchildren especially enjoyed his scones at Christmas, homemade bread, ski days and just spending time with Grandpa. Many of us were recipients for his freshly baked bread.

His association with the Utah Westerners took him on adventures to remote parts of the west. He was an experienced skier and taught skiing for 30 years. He claimed he was a ski instructor first and practiced law on the side. Flying airplanes was a fascination since high school days. He chartered the first Boy Scout troop for disabled young men.

Survived by his wife Lillian, children Nancy (Ed) Eynon, Joni (Mark) Allen, Brian (Teresa) Garrett, Jim (Susie) Garrett and grandchildren Justin, Jeni, Scott, Joseph, Ian, Lynsie, Aaron, Kimberly, Ella and Leah.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 Highland Drive, SLC. Friends may visit Wednesday 6 to 8 pm and one hour prior to the services. Life celebration following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a favorite charity.
