February 10, 1933 - July 11, 2019
Elizabeth Margrietha Rouw de Lannoy, our beloved mom, oma, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend, was born in Wapenveld, Netherlands on February 10, 1933, and died on July 11, 2019, in Sandy, Utah. She lived to be 86 years old and peacefully passed away of natural causes associated with dementia. Her family was by her side through the hardest trial of her life, loving and taking care of her.
Lies was born and raised in the Netherlands and was the fourth child and cherished daughter of Martinus Stephanus Rouw and Elizabeth Margrietha Heideveld. Her older brothers are Frits, Henk and Roel Rouw. She loved each of her brothers and talked about her wonderful relationship with them often.
When Elizabeth turned 18, she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She later served as a missionary in the Netherlands Mission. Elizabeth met her future husband, Willem Henricus Ferdinand de Lannoy, at a singles adult church conference where she was a speaker. They wrote love letters long distance and were married on January 23, 1962, in the Netherlands. As was custom, their marriage was later solemnized in the Swiss Temple in Bern, Switzerland. They are the parents of three children: Esther de Lannoy Cloward, Joyce de Lannoy Felt (Eric Felt), and Marty deLannoy (Laura Jane Wilson deLannoy).
Lisa and Bill emigrated to the United States in 1966, and she was very loyal and patriotic about this country for over 50 years. She loved Salt Lake City with its four seasons and the beautiful Wasatch Mountains. Her close Dutch friends, the Dicou family, became her adopted family in Utah. Lisa had a strong network of friends through the Dutch and German clubs of Salt Lake and enjoyed dancing and other organized activities. She also had many life-long neighborhood and church friends whom she dearly loved. Throughout her life, Elizabeth had many jobs, but she considered the most important one as that of being a mother. She primarily worked as a seamstress in the retail fashion industry, altering wedding gowns, women’s suits and other fine apparel.
Lisa was a faithful church member and served many people in her numerous callings. She was feisty and funny, often stubborn and blunt, and she had a great mischievous smile and laugh! Lisa enjoyed reading a good book, oil painting, quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening, cooking, observing nature, and traveling. She collected beautiful artifacts, stamps and spoons, and devoted most of her time to her family. Elizabeth showed true Christlike love to everyone she met and many others she never met through service and humanitarian projects. She was humble, kind, strong, brave and thrifty. Through her example, Lisa taught her children the importance of life-long learning and compassionate service. She loved working on genealogy and had an abiding testimony of the Savior.
Elizabeth had many wonderful friends at the Wentworth at Willow Creek, where she lived the last several years. She wanted to adopt everyone who helped her as her own granddaughters. They loved her and took extremely good care of her in the final years of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willem de Lannoy; grandson, Adam Felt; parents, Martinus and Elizabeth Rouw; two brothers, Henk and Roel Rouw; and sisters-in-law, Maartje and Aly Rouw. Elizabeth is survived by her brother, Frits Rouw; sister-in-law, Willy Rouw; three children, twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
