We are heartbroken to announce the death of our beloved son, brother, and uncle, Elliott Chase Bischoff. Chase was found deceased in his home in Portland, Oregon, on the morning of June 18th, 2023. Chase was born in Sandy, Utah, on August 17th, 1987. He was enthusiastically welcomed into the world by his family, which includes five older siblings, all of whom adore him and will miss him tremendously.
Chase’s passion for music, art, and keepin’ it weird drew him to Portland. He loved the city and affectionately called it home for nearly 15 years. While in Portland, Chase had successful careers in both healthcare and primary education with a focus on special education. He was a kind, generous, and empathetic person whose professional ambitions were driven by a sincere desire to help others and leave the world better than he found it.
Chase was a brilliant scholar and musician. He played multiple instruments including guitar, cello, piano, bass, and violin. During his short life, Chase composed over 100 songs. He enjoyed performing with his band, Fear Makes Friends With Joy. Chase was a graduate student in the German Program at Portland State University (PSU). He was obsessed with German language and culture, and was looking forward to completing his Master’s Degree in Germany at the University of Freiburg.
Chase is preceded in death by his Grandparents, Robert and Ruth Bischoff, and his cousin, Chad Bowler Bischoff. He is survived by his mother, Denise Bischoff Storheim (Dr. John Sr.); his brothers J. Michael Robertson (Nora), Matthew Robertson (Heather), and J. Chris Robertson; his sisters Katie Zimmerman (Adam), and Megan Bartley (Matthew); 14 nieces and nephews; and his extensive network of family, friends, and colleagues in Salt Lake City, Portland, and around the world. The family wishes to extend their love and gratitude to PSU’s German Program, Chase’s dear friends from recovery, Portland Gay Men’s Chorus, and Dr. Stephen Cameron.
