Evan Richard Jardine made a peaceful departure from this life just shy of 84, on February 17, 2025, after navigating dementia with love, courage, and humor. Evan was born February 20, 1941, to Genevieve (Judy) and Harold Jardine. He graduated from South High School, served four years in the US Air Force, and later received an Associate degree from Salt Lake Community College. He retired from Kennecott Copper/Rio Tinto after 35 years of driving the “big trucks.” In 1965, he married Karen Lund, the love of his life—and love at first sight—just six months after a chance meeting at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. They enjoyed 59 wonderful years together. Evan was a bowler, golfer, and softball player. He coached his senior softball team to first place in the league. He loved sharing what he loved with his family. There are many fun memories of rocking out to music while playing pool in the basement, croquet in the backyard, hitting a bucket of balls at the driving range, and bowling on Sunday mornings. He was playful with a quick wit and sense of humor. His favorite phrase, “don’t sweat the small stuff” will always be with us. He loved his family and family gatherings. He was the sweetest husband, dad and Bop. We always knew we were loved. He taught us to be there for each other, that we could pick up the pieces and learn something new, to work hard and be reliable, and to make time to play and relax.
Evan is survived by his wife, Karen Jardine; two children, Mitchell (Alesha) Jardine and Michelle Jardine (Kevin Megown); six grandchildren, Hayden, Greysen, Ashley, Samantha, Calivn, and Jared; sisters Jayme Wittke, Tami Gilligan and Tesa Kowalski; brothers Ken (Kim) Lund and Dale (Patty) Lund; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Judy and Harold Jardine; mother-in-law Pearl (Elden) Lund; brothers Wade Jardine, Jerry (Naomi) Lund, and Budd Lund; sister Allyson Jardine.
In lieu of services, we hope those who knew Evan will enjoy something he loved in his honor. We would like to thank the very kind caregivers at Meadow Peak Memory Care for helping him through his last 14 months.
Evan, Dad, Bop - We are so grateful for the life and time we had with you. We love you so much and will miss you for the rest of our lives.
