Fay W. Schiller

August 24, 1917 – February 29, 2012

Fay returned home on February 29, 2012 in the care of family, dedicated nurses and staff at SpringCreek Care Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, at age 94. The fifth of ten children born to Roy Ernest Wilbur and Anna Kirstine Hansine Jespersen Wilbur, Fay was the last to leave this earthly sphere. Fay was born August 24, 1917 in Salt Lake City, and married Robert Cecil Brewer June 20, 1953 in his native West Virginia. She lived in Seaside, California while awaiting his return from active duty with the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. He died as a result of an auto accident there on March 24, 1962. Fay supported herself as a checker for Smith’s Food King for many years after moving back to Salt Lake to be near family.

After decades of living alone, being everyone’s Aunt Fay (which entailed sleepovers, treats and going goofing), Fay married Willis Earl Schiller on July 24, 1986 in Elko, Nevada. They had many happy years together at their home in Salt Lake, even after he suffered a debilitating stroke. Fay rarely left his side until he passed away on September 28, 2000.

Fay will long be remembered for her handiwork, including crocheted bedspreads, afghans, quilts, and bead-and-sequined calendars. She gardened extensively and produced showcase yards. Her dogs, Skeeter and Shorty, were her children, and it is easy to picture their happy reunion.

The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the loving staff at SpringCreek Care Center and OneCare Hospice who cared for Fay the past twenty months. They were patient with her chocolate and Coca-Cola habits, and her strong will when something was suggested that did not meet her approval.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 3rd at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Chapel, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, with a viewing one hour before the services. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery.
