Lettie Marie and Fern J Condie welcomed their baby, Fern J Condie Jr., into their home on February 1, 1931. On March 21, 2026, as the sun set, they warmly welcomed him home once again after 95 fulfilling years. We know they are very proud of him and the honorable life he lived. We are so proud to be his family.
Greeting him home as a baby were his three sisters: Corene (Ken Woodward), Clarice (John Porter) and Bonnie (Boyd Buttars). Baby Jay grew up and attended school in Preston, Idaho. He graduated from Preston High School in 1949, and was called to serve our Savior on an LDS Mission to the North Atlantic States Mission, serving under President Nalder. Elder Condie served happily in the Missionary Chorus performing musical evenings throughout the entire mission. Jay cherished his missionary service. For the next 70 years Jay joyfully sang tenor in his local ward choir.
After Jay’s LDS mission He proudly partnered with his Dad on the family’s Meadow Lark Ranch. He loved all things cattle and horse related. Jay was a true cowboy at heart. With worn Wranglers, dusty boots, a sweaty straw cowboy hat, a Latigo rope, and leather gloves. Jay worked hard. Somehow amidst the work, he took the time to fall madly in love with Marian Bell, the petite Harvest Ball queen of the class of 1953. They were married in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on August 6, 1954. The young lovers made their home in Preston where Jay worked with his dad, while Marian attended school and received her LPN license. In 1963 Jay and Marian moved to Turner, Idaho. There they farmed and raised their seven children: Steven (Cindy), Richard, Jayne (Ron Russell), Thomas (Sheri), Samuel (Raeanne), Elizabeth (Ron Welker), and Jeremy (Sherri). In the upheaval of the 1980 recession, Jay and Marian moved into Grace where they lived until 2020. They then moved to Twin Falls, Idaho. Elizabeth and her family cheerfully loved and cared for them until they returned to Preston in November of 2024 with Richard to watch over them. Even at 90, Marian’s love for Jay never falters, though her patience did wear thin at times. Her love and care for Jay are endless, just 70 years with eternity to go.
Jay’s entire family is proud of his exemplary life of love, work, and service. Along with his mission in the Central States, Marian and Jay served temple missions to Seoul, Korea and Atlanta, Georgia. Together they faithfully helped patrons in the Logan Temple for 20 years.
Jay often said the great joys of his life were his missions, and his family. At his passing Jay enjoyed the love of 21 grandkids, 36 great grandkids, and a mighty host of friends world wide. We will be Jay’s legacy.
Our family wishes to thank all who played a part in making life joyful for our Dad. Especially we wish to thank the staff of Heritage Senior Living and his wonderful hospice nurses. Those dedicated friends worked tirelessly to bring peace and happiness to his final year. We warmly welcome them all into Jay’s honorary family.
