

Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Otelia B. and Archie Q. Hale, sisters Clarene Wilson and MaRee Guyton and brothers Nathan Hale and Myron Hale.
Ray is survived by his wife Linda Hale, brothers Ralph (Deon) Hale, and David (Marica) Hale, children Brad (Shanna) Hale, Debbie (Ed) Axtell, Stephanie Pendergast, Kimberly Hale, Leslie (Blaine) Chambers, Jed Hale and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ray graduated from West High School in 1948 and the University of Utah in 1952 with a degree in teaching and communications. After graduating from the U, Ray owned and operated Action Distribution and simultaneously pursued a career as an NCAA football, basketball and baseball official.
One of Ray's greatest passions was giving back to his alma mater, West High School. In 1954 he and his four brothers established the "Hale Award", a scholarship given to outstanding male and female student athletes. This scholarship continues to be given today. Ray served on the West High Alumni Association for several decades and was often found at West High athletic events cheering on his Panthers. In 2010 Ray was honored by having his name placed on the school fieldhouse. Ray coined the term "Once a Panther, Always a Panther."
A viewing will be held on Friday, June 2, 6:00 pm-8:00 pm. Larkin Mortuary, 260 E So. Temple. Graveside service will be held Saturday, June 3, 11:00 am. Wasatch Lawn Memorial, 3401 So. Highland Drive.
The family expresses gratitude to Intermountain Hospice caregivers Nubia, Brock and Julie for their loving service on Ray's behalf.
