Jerry passed away peacefully at his home on November 17, 2012. He was born in Salt Lake City on August 14, 1932 to Francis Pitt and Dean Starr (who passed away in 1933) and was then adopted by his stepfather L. Roland Bain. He was raised in a happy home in the Millcreek area and became the oldest brother to three siblings. He graduated from Granite High School where he met his sweetheart, Marcia Wagley. They were married September 4, 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity. Jerry served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. Upon completing his service, he attended the University of Utah where he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. This afforded him a career in the aerospace industry which gave them the opportunity to live in many places in the United States. The majority of his career was spent in California where they were blessed to raise six beautiful children, with whom he enjoyed fishing, skiing and playing at the beach. Jerry was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served in many leadership callings and touched many lives.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marcia, who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past September, by sons Jeff (Carol), Brad (Roberta), daughters Christy (Matt), Becky (Tom), brother Brent (Sharon), sister Connie (Dick), sister-in-law Dawn, 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, sons Rick (Sandy), Greg and brother Dennis.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, November 20th at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary (3401 S. Highland Dr.) from 6-8pm. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 21st at the Cottonwood 3rd Ward (6301 S. 2300 E.) at 11am with a viewing one hour prior to services.
