Gerda was born in Berlin, Germany. Her early childhood memories were of nightly trips to bomb shelters for protection from air raids. Her childhood home was lost in the last days of WWII. Eventually she fled from East Berlin to West Berlin and then immigrated to the United States in 1955 to join her sister Gisela.
She met her eternal companion Friedel, also from Berlin, when she arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were married in 1956 and lived a long, beautiful life together in their new country.
Gerda had a firm testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ, and loved her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Gerda also enjoyed her time working at the pickle factory, Keith O’ Brien, and Alan Frank and Associates. She was good with numbers.
She was proud torch bearer for the Salt Lake 2002 Olympics.
Gerda loved her family and gave her grandkids and great grandkids the best grandma memories. She is survived by her two daughters, Diana (Lee) Ulmer Hoggan and Debra (Ed) Kinsey; Grandchildren, Johnathan Ulmer, Joseph Ulmer, Jared (Maxine) Ulmer, Ed (Jennifer) Kinsey, Billy (Lindy) Kinsey, Kambria (Ryan) Findlay, Jake Kinsey; twenty-one great grandchildren; along with nieces and nephews that she loved; and her Legacy House Park Lane Family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Friedel, parents, grandson JJ, son-in-law Mark, and her brother and sister.
