Gloria was born September 27, 1924 to Edward Owen Dickie and Mary Thelin Dickie in Carmangay, Alberta, Canada. She grew up in Western Canada, worked at the Chateau Lake Louise in Alberta. She served a faithful LDS Mission in Eastern Canada and brought the Light of the Gospel into many lives. While attending BYU, she met the love of her life, John M. Tippets. They were married on April 10, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. She shared sixty happy years with her sweetheart. They started their family in northern Wyoming and were subsequently blessed with six delightful children. They raised their children in Salt Lake City, where she had many opportunities to serve in the church and bring light and love to all that she came in contact with. She was a hard worker and spent twenty years as an Administrative Assistant at Hill Air Force Base. In her later years she spent her time volunteering in the Family History Center and submitted over a million records for the Genealogy Department of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Gloria had a sweet sparkle with a genuine love for people and life. She always saw the glass half full and had a heart brimming with compassion, unconditional love and acceptance of all. She valued the gospel, her family and her dear friends above all else.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son John Brent and her sister Mary Lou Belle. She is survived by her children, Duane (Lori) Tippets, Sonja (Kevin) Maxwell, Joy (Andrew) Dodds, Reid (Pam) Tippets and Scott Tippets, and by her nineteen grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday February 16, 2013, at the Crystal Heights Ward, 1970 East Stratford Avenue (2600 South) in Salt Lake City, Utah. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Friday evening at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 So Highland Drive. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
