

He was born November 9, 1931 to Benjamin Francis Howells and Sylvia Vivian Tuttle Howells in Union (Midvale), Utah. He was the 5th son of six boys. He grew up and attended Union Elementary, Junior High and graduated from Jordan High School in 1950. He was a member of the Track and Field Team, he majored in Fine Arts and attended BYU for 2 years. He then served for 2 years in the US ARMY as a MP stationed in France during the Korean War. When he returned from service he re-entered BYU and graduated with a Masters in Library Science. He worked weekends on a Track Gang at Kennecott Bingham Canyon Mine with Paul C. Brown, who introduced him to his wife. He met Moonyene Lambert on a blind date, after several months they were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on May 24, 1958. They lived in Salt Lake City for 45 years and are the proud parents of 3 children. He retired in 1996 from the Salt Lake County Library system. He enjoyed gardening with his wife, playing the Cello, and Flute and Appalachian Mountain Dlucimer which he made by hand. He enjoyed listening to classical music and drawing portraits and walking his dog Harry.
He is survived by his children Moria (Mike) Breck, James Lambert Howells, Derek (Shannon) Howells and his grandchildren Megan Kathleen, Grace Ireland, Olivia Raelynn Howells and Michael Anthony William and Kayla Moonyene Breck. He was proceeded in death by his parents, wife Moonyene, and brothers Tom and Pete.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 11:00 am at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah 84106.
