Janis Tolman Newton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on June 12, 2016, from complications caused by a stroke. Janis was born May 22, 1953 in Logan, Utah to Edwin O. Tolman and Valene Elizabeth Brown.
She graduated from Logan High School and completed her education graduating from Utah State University. She taught school for 30 years and retired from Jordan School District.
She married Roger J. Newton on August 2, 1985 in Logan, Utah. Janis served faithfully in many callings in the LDS Church. She loved all those whom she came in contact with. She was a Temple worker in the Jordan River Temple until her stroke. She was happiest when she was surrounded by family and friends and serving others. She had a beautiful testimony and loved the scriptures and the Savior.
Janis is survived by her husband Roger J. Newton, brother Scott Tolman (Linda), sister Judy White (Jay), children Nicole Wood (Jeff), and Emilee Twedt (Brady). Also survived by her step children whom she loved very much, Brian Newton (Shelley), Traci Baxendale, Jason Newton and 10 grandchildren plus one grandchild and great grandchild to arrive soon. She was preceded in death by her parents and step-son Tyler Newton.
A viewing will be held for family and friends on Friday, June 17, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 pm and Saturday, June 18, 2016 from 10:00-10:45 am at the Crescent 23rd Ward, 10375 S. Leilani Drive, Sandy, Utah. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah.
