Our loving husband, father and friend, John Ronald Snow, passed away peacefully the morning of June 9, 2020 in Salt Lake City, Utah after many years of courageously navigating the difficulties of Alzheimer’s dementia. John was born April 13, 1939 to Ronald Thornton and Naomi Seamount Snow. John was a life-long boy scout; the entirety of his life being a reflection of the values taught in scouting. He always strived to do his duty to god and country to help other people at all times and keep his own life in order. He dedicated hours upon hours serving in a variety of church callings and completing two missions, first in Australia and later with his sweetheart in Santiago, Chile. He loved his country and honored the flag. During Vietnam, he was stationed at the Pentagon for the US Army. Later served his local community for years as a member and president of the Holladay Utah Rotary. He was an accomplished project manager for HP, Bechtel, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He died true to his principles of faith, honor and service; having shared his passion for these virtues with his four children and 16 grandchildren, not to mention the countless people with whom he readily shared his testimony and a pass along card.
John and Geraldine first met as children and were friends during their youth spending family Easter and Christmas celebrations together. Years later fate brought them back in contact while each was living in the San Francisco bay area. They were married June 20, 1972 in the Provo Utah temple. Together, they raised four children all of whom carry on the legacy of loyalty, kindness, faith and friendship that John taught by word and example. Of all the qualities and virtues he developed over his lifetime his devotion to family was always paramount.
An adventurer at heart, John was always ready and willing to head to the mountains for a hike, a camping trip or to cast a fly into the water. We may not have always caught fish but we loved the time together and the life lessons gained by being outside in nature. Similarly, he loved exploring the world and experiencing other cultures. John’s love of nature and his ability as a teacher were on full display when he served as a scoutmaster for many years, inspiring dozens of young men to work hard, achieve goals and respect the natural world.
John showed kindness and love to his sweetheart each and every day, holding a door for her, dancing in the kitchen or breaking into the giggles at the kitchen table with her over the simplest jokes.
John is survived by his brother Rodney, wife Geraldine, daughter Jeannine, sons Steven, Bryan and Jacob, 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Our family is extremely grateful to the nurses and staff at Neighborhood House and William E. Christoffersen Salt Lake Veterans Home for the outstanding care and attention they gave to this amazing man.
