Joyce Oakley McKean, Age 81, passed away on July 3, 2017, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on November 25, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to parents Edward S. Oakley, and Mary Hatch Oakley. She graduated from West High School, and later went on to marry Melbourne McKean on her 20th birthday, November 25, 1955.
Mom had many special talents, but at the top was her loving care for Dad for 53 years. She was an excellent cook, and she was rewarded after each meal with a kiss and a thank you from Dad.
Mom had an eye for detail. All the curtains for her home and the clothing she made for me and my Barbie were done with the precision of a professional. Mom created a beautiful space inside the home and in her flower beds. Her garden was designed to have a rotation of colors from Spring through Fall. The inside of her home always reflected the season outside.
She is preceded in death by her wonderful husband, Melbourne McKean; brother, LaVor Oakley; and son-in-law Robert Brimhall. She is survived by her daughter, Karen McKean Brimhall (Harvard, Idaho), and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
The family would like to thank the professional and loving care of Canyon Hospice. A thank you also, to the great folks at Home Instead. Also, a very sincere thanks to Mom’s special neighbors and friends on Delsa Drive. Your care brought comfort to the family.
A private graveside service has already taken place at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Please consider a donation to Primary Children’s Hospital in Joyce’s name.
