As a newly married couple, your mother was such an angel to my wife and I. A very special lady.


It was wonderful to get to grow up in the same ward that Joyce was in. She enriched my life so much. It was an honor watching her work miracles in Choir and Plays. I got to see her up close & in person as she worked on "Five on a Honeymoon", "Hello, Dolly", and road shows. It's not Christmas unless I can get together with my sister Lauralee, and sing A SPECIAL NIGHT, STAR OF BETHLEHEM, and of course WERE YOU THERE ON THAT CHRISTMAS NIGHT. These are all songs that are family traditions because of Joyce's influence.


I remember one time close to the 4th of July, when Joyce was giving a talk. In the middle of it the organ started. We had become used to heavenly chords from Gene occasionally, as he would drift off. (I think my dad told me he worked different hours) but this time, it was by design. She quoted the lyrics to a patriotic song as Gene played the organ in the background. Joyce was not afraid to rouse the spirit through the use of drama.  


More than her talent for the arts, what meant most to me was her talent for loving, in particular loving me. She had my back and believed in me, just like she did everyone else. The scripture comes to mind... we love (her) because (she) first loved us. (1 John 4:19). Truly a god-like quality. 



I just watched the service for Joyce. It was beautiful. Enjoyed all the speakers and the children singing. I’m so grateful for technology that makes these things possible (and that I got it to work).

Beautiful services for Aunt Joyce ... or as your mother and our grandmother would say, "Wonderful, Wonderful."   I think Aunt Joyce and Grandma were two peas in a pod.  :)  Cousins, your mother is so proud of you.  She deeply loves you and your families and when the Lord calls you Home, you will all be reunited.  May you find comfort and peace that she is now with your father, your brother, our grandpa, our grandma, her sisters, her brothers, our Father in Heaven, and in the truth that Families Are Forever.  She was/is a truly remarkable lady and I'm so proud to call her, and you, family.  God Bless!

I met my cousin Joyce and her sister Jeniel at the Temple one day, and it was such a joy to meet up with them.  They said that they came weekly to the Temple together, and it was a joy to share that beautiful place with them where the peace of the Lord is.  I remember Showers at Aunt Marie and Aunt Lena's houses and how fun they were.  I have great respect for Joyce and her whole family, and great love for them.  I'm grateful I was able to be a part of the funeral to show my final respects to her.  I'm happy that she's with Gene again, and I pray for the family to have peace.

Joyce was such a lovely lady.  I got to know her as I served in the Stake Relief Society Presidency.  As I visited her ward, I soon learned of her gifts and talent for music.  She was always such a delightful woman.  She was known for leading the traditional Christmas musical which I attended many times.   I'm sure she has organized a choir in heaven.

When I told my son Dan Aunt Joyce had passed away he said “she was the funny one”.  I think that is how all my children distinguished aunt Joyce from the other aunts.  I loved her laugh and she always found something to laugh about.  I think that was what kept her young at heart even at 93.  Her zest for life was contagious. Whenever we talked on the phone I could feel it.  With Joyce’s passing I am now the only one left out of the six Barlow children and their spouses.  Makes me feel kind of lonely.  I hope they will all be there to meet me when it’s my turn, with my wonderful Earl out in front.
The gospel is true, it gives life and death a meaning no other thing can. 
My love to all the nieces and nephews I haven’t seen for a long time, especially to Jerry, Sharon and Marilyn.    Aunt Sandy

I've known Joyce nearly as long as I can remember.  She was a dear friend to my grandmother, Pam Cole. She always had a smile, a hug, and a kind word for me. She and I could always share our love for musical theater. I remember going to see the musical Crazy for You while visiting Utah once and Joyce ended up being in the row in front of me. 
I loved singing in the church choir with her and seeing her bright smiling face when I visited the ward. 
She is now singing, and perhaps leading a section, with the heavenly choir! ❤

Dear Gerry, Sharon, and Marilyn,

Your beautiful and talented mother has left this earthly existence - she has been called Home.  The Barlow's are all together again - Grandpa, Grandma, Aunt Arlene, Uncle Clift, Aunt Jeniel, Uncle Earl, my mom (Carole), and now your mom (my Aunt Joyce).  I believe they are singing their hearts out with their beautiful voices, Grandpa playing the banjo, Grandma playing the harmonica or the spoons, Aunt Arlene playing the piano, and your mom (or Grandma) directing the whole production.  What a glorious reunion!

These are some words that come to mind as I remember Aunt Joyce:  infectious laugh, positivity, love of life and living, and, of course, her theatrical productions.  I remember mom and me going to see Aunt Joyce's production of the Music Man - fantastic and to this day, I credit her for my love of going to plays.

Mom and dad loved the weekly telephone calls they had with Aunt Joyce - she brought such joy to their lives.  The last phone call mom had prior to her passing this past February was with Aunt Joyce.  I believe mom needed to hear from her sister so mom could let go of this earthly existence.  Mom passed away shortly thereafter.

Your mother - Aunt Joyce - was a gift to us all and she will be missed.  Our prayers, thoughts, and love are with you.

Dear Marilyn and family.  We would like to express our Sympathy and love to you at the passing of your sweet Mother.  Thanks for the  few times we were able to welcome her in meeting with us in the ward.   Your Mother always had a smiling radiance about her.  I know you will miss her as any of us  do when our Mother's pass on to God's Kingdom.  I have been so very thankful for the wonderful memories and love my Mother and I shared in this life.  May these wonderful memories you two have shared,  bring comfort to you as your heart  feels this pain and grief.  God will bless you and may you find comfort always. Loved Joyce so much. Plays with her were so fun.  Loved when I visited my home ward and saw her still leading the singing.  I missed play practice once because I got engaged that night. I always felt guilty but she forgave me ( I think, I hope).  This world is missing a wonderful woman.  Condolences to your family, Robyn Mather.

I have so many wonderful memories of my dear friend Joyce. I was fortunate to participate in several of her roadshows, and in Fiddler on the Roof and Hello Dolly. We also did Cheaper by the Dozen and took it on the road to Tremonton. I remember one act plays like the Capricious Pearls and Dark Deeds at the Crossroads. It was such a joy to sing, act, and associate with Joyce. We love her dearly.  What a blessing in our lives.  

Dear Joyce,

Thank you so much for letting me know about your Mom's passing. I loved your Mom so much. I loved seeing her and you come to Cardiac Rehab at St. Mark's Hospital. Every time I felt like singing, "You Light up My Life." If I were a better singer, then I'll bet that Dorothy Collins would  have clapped, not because of my singing but because  Joyce did light up my life. I spoke with your Mom recently on the phone, but I greatly regret that I hadn't spoke with her or you again for a little bit of time. Anyway, just want you to know how much Joyce did light up my life -- and you did, too! Thank goodness for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. May the Lord bless all of Joyce's family and your family. Also, please give my best regards to Cameron. I think of him and wondering what I could do to do something good for him. I hope we will be able to keep in touch.
