I learned of Joye's passing while on my way to Nauvoo, Illinois to serve with the Nauvoo Pageant. I was so sad not to be able to attend her funeral service. Joye was my 1st Grade teacher at Millcreek Elementary (1984-1985). I loved being in her class and still have the Christmas stocking I made in her class. I was born with Spina Bifida and use a wheelchair and walk with crutches and braces. When I was  in her class I used a walker. My wheelchair was stolen that year and my classmates (with her help) raised money for me to get a new one. It wasn't enough for that and thankfully I got it back, but my parents bought my first pair of crutches with the money. I still have the giant note she wrote to go with the money. She assigned a couple of my friends to be my helpers during fire drills. One time she was hurrying to get the other students out and my helpers helped me, but I still remember the look of panic she had on her face when she came back into the building to get me. I loved singing in chorus with her as the director and I still count on my fingers the way she taught me. Over the years we have sent Christmas cards to each other. I didn't get one sent to her this last Christmas because I had really bad tendinitis and was planning to send her a postcard from Nauvoo. I cried when I found out she wouldn't be around for me to send one. I also loved seeing her at the temple once in a while. She lived up to her name and was a joy to be around and she gave great hugs! I will miss her very much, but I'm grateful to know that she is once again with her husband on the other side of the veil.

I worked with Sister Cummings in the Salt Lake Temple for a number of years and loved her dearly.  She was so sweet and loving and  dedicated to the Lord!  I am sure her family will miss such a dear person so much!

Dear Cummings Family, I am saddened by this news, and in tears. What a great lady!  I knew her from Madison but never had her as a teacher, my brothers did! I got to know her better when I was in Young Women's and she was the Stake Young Women's President, and when I left Young Women's only because I got to old, and she allowed me the continue to be a Stake Camp Leader and be in charge of the camp fire activities and music around the campfires, and testimony night! She was there for me when my dad got hurt at work the day before camp and only allowed me to go if I drove myself, so I could drive to Kamas everyday and call home to the hospital to check on my dad's condition! I remember her crying as she announced to all the young women to keep me and my family in their prayers! She was the most kind and loving person! Even when I got sent to the Principals office when she was acting Principal because I skipped class! I will never forget her telling me she was disappointed in me for doing that! What a great lady whom I have loved the majority of my life! Always enjoyed visiting her at her home, and she was always interested in what I was doing in my life, and especially about my birds and pets! (Joe would always take me out to see the rabbits and chickens when I was a lot younger, and Joye would be working in her beautiful home while Joe taught me about the animals!) Now she is reunited with her funny and equally loving husband Joe! Rest In Peace Joye! I will always think of you when I play Walk Tall You're A Daughter of God on the guitar, I know how much you loved that song! I will always love you! Give Wanda and Joe a hug for me!

For my family are next door neighbors were Joye and farmer Joe, but for me it was always Mrs Cummings because she was my first grade teacher. 
She taught me may things but the greatest lesson she taught me was how to be a great neighbor. She always had time for me while she was out gardening. Always had special  on treats at Halloween. And always supportive on special occasions. Blair Street has lost a great neighbor. My heart and thoughts go out to you her family.

Besides Grandpa & Grandma Julian, my earliest memories are of Aunt Joye and Uncle Joe. They embraced us with love & helped with our transition from Hawaii to the mainland. I was 4 years old. I clearly remember Aunt Joye singing in the morning while making breakfast with my Mom. I also remember playing outside while Uncle Joe and Dad were building the diner. I guess it was a few months later that we moved to Dugway. After that it seemed like moving was the mode for us. Aunt Joye & Uncle Joe embraced my parents and my brother, Lee by renting them a house just across from them on Blair during one of the moves. Matt and Michelle were consumed by Aunt Joye & Uncle Joe during a family visit to that house. Aunt Joye's singing was as heavenly as it was when I was 4. there we're a few more visits to Salt Lake, all accompanied with visits hosted by Aunt Joy. We completely understand Dan's meaning of the Queen of Hearts. Aunt Joye always smiled and shrouded in Love.

Mrs. Cummings was my first grade teacher at Madison Elementary School in South Salt Lake City, a number of years ago. She was a wonderful teacher who exhibited kindness and warmth with mother like qualities, to her young students.  I will always remember her fondly.  With heartfelt sympathy to her family.

Children and Family of Joye,  She was my absolute favorite teacher.  She was gentle and kind and rarely got angry.  We had gerbils, watched chicks hatched. She would sing with the ukulele after our work was done. My twin sister, Joyce Hall Birrell also enjoyed her as our teacher.  My parents Bruce and Laurel Hall, also worked with Joe and Joye to provide a church service to the local dentention center for several years.  Much love to you all. Dear David, Becky, Mary, and Dan, 
Your precious mother is so cherished! No one could have a better 2nd grade teacher as my twin and I enjoyed. This was at Madison Elementary. She taught us about singing with her guitar. She taught about baby chicks hatching. She really made school quite nice and fun. Unknown are the efforts made for these wonderful times for so many. She also is remembered for leading music and being a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and a vital member in the South Salt Lake Stake. My heart is saddened to have such a sweet and caring lady depart. Still, your father is also remembered. May you find comfort and solace from Heaven.

Dear David, Becky, Mary and Dan,
Your sweet, sweet Mother has been such a positive influence in my life. She sang "He That Hath Clean Hands and a Pure Heart" at my mission farewell responding to my request. I remember fondly the days we spent at girls camp Sosalaspru with Joye and Leone. One day I went with your Mom to the Ogden temple. Her singing with the Trio and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir was always so uplifting. I remember her teaching us songs every week in Primary. Such sweet and cherished memories!
