Julia Lee Stansfield Hogan, age 81, passed away on March 1, 2023. She was born on June 16, 1941 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. She was the oldest daughter of Glena Paulsen and Earl C. Stansfield. She was raised in Midvale, Utah. She helped her mother raise her three younger siblings. Her parents divorced and she later moved to Coloma, Michigan with her family and step-dad, Paul Zielke.
Julia participated in many activities Coloma High School where she graduated in 1959. She studied at BYU and worked as an editor and writer. She wrote TV spots and radio news for Kennecott Copper Mine and worked for Kall radio. She also performed in melodrama’s at the Lagoon Opera House.
She married Dennis Lee Hogan on February 25, 1971 and was later sealed in the Manti Temple August 2, 1973. They had 3 children. Julia also had 3 step-sons who she loved as her own. Julia has been a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many capacities. At a young age, she was a righteous example and inspired many others. Her passion for the LDS church and her motivation to keep her covenants were clear.
Julia had a wonderful career working at Trolley Square, the Triad Center and The ZCMI Center. She had many career highlights including being on the National MDA Telethon presented by Jerry Lewis. She became a Certified Marketing Director by the International Council of Shopping Centers. She created a street performer program at Trolley Square and wrote a booklet, “If Trolly Cars Could Talk.”
In 1989, Julia began teaching Public Speaking, Fashion Merchandising, Personal Development, Visual Display and Retail Economics at LDS Business College. She became the first Cooperative Education Director for LDS Business College and completed her AS degree in 1994. She was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1998.
Julia was a woman who was beautiful, fun and energetic. She loved to have parties and gatherings with family and friends. Julia had many, many talents. She was a creative dancer, director, radio and TV advertising specialist. She was a song writer and historian. She wrote the words and music to the song “Bethlehem Night,” along with the school song for Central Junior High School.
Julia enjoyed her relationship with her dear sister Marilyn. They were always laughing and reminiscing about their cheerleading days in Michigan. Julia enjoyed traveling to see her brothers at various spots in the world and to keep her family ties close.
Julia was well loved by friends and family. She had a positive attitude and a pleasant demeanor despite the challenges she faced. Some of her favorite things were: taking pictures, water aerobics, swimming, pickle ball, shopping, traveling, biking, gardening, snow skiing, boating, camping, fishing, singing, theater, music, visiting family members, reading, writing and the gospel. She was a great painter and poet. She liked square box gardening, planting flowers and she enjoyed hummingbirds. We will all miss this treasured woman here on earth. Her eyes were always beaming and her heart was always full of compassion for others. She was genuinely appreciative of service given on her behalf.
She is survived by children: Jennifer (Tim) Leslie, Clark (DeeAnna Baldwin) Hogan, step sons: Doug (Carolyn) Hogan, Brian (Nanette) Hogan, Brent (Lisa) Hogan and 18 grandchildren. Siblings: Marilyn (Ted) Walldorf, Steven (Joanne) Stansfield, Colonel Randell (Kenra) Stansfield, John (Karen) Zielke, David (Cindy) Zielke, Anne (Lee) Bryner, Dennis Stansfield, Melody Stansfield Lucky and Carol Stansfield. Julia is preceded in death by her parents, step-father, husband, Dennis Hogan, son, Andrew Stansfield Hogan, and siblings; John Zielke and Linda Stansfield.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Monday, March 13, 2023 at the Valley View 9th Ward, 1925 East Gundersen Lane in Holladay. A viewing will be held from 10 am - 10:45 am prior to the services.
Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive.
