Kent was born on December 28, 1961 in Ely Nevada to Mark D. and Renee Blackham. He is survived by his two daughters Brittany and Kelsey, mother (Renee), brothers Scott, Brian (Sonja), Michael (Melissa), and sisters Traci (Michael), and Leslie (Shawn). He also has many nieces and nephews that love their Uncle Kooks.
Kent will most be remembered for his sense of humor and his sentimental nature. Many memories of Kent’s sense of humor are shared between his two daughters. They fondly remember him never being too self-conscious to be silly in public or in front of others. He would stop at nothing to put a smile on their faces when they needed it most. They loved when he used his “radio” voice at home around the house to narrate the most mundane tasks. They loved the silly ways he would wake them up in the morning and put them to bed at night. But most of all, they loved the way he used his humor to feel more connected to them.
Kent was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, an eagle scout, and served a mission in Spokane, Washington. He held various church callings. He especially had a passion for the scouting program and serving the elderly.
For the past 18 years he developed forever friendships with employees and customers at Smith’s Food and Drug. He knew his customers by name, and many would wait in his line for service. He also loved being a radio personality at K-BULL 93.
Kooks loved his convertible TR6, Nascar, Utah Warriors rugby, gourmet cooking, Planet Fitness, taking selfies, planting his garden, smoking ribs, serving others, serving others, serving others! Kooks laughed and he laughed hard, even at his own jokes.
Kent was a fighter! He had some health problems, and in each instance, he maintained a positive attitude. He was able to overcome what doctors thought were unsurmountable odds. He was overwhelmed with the consistent and constant support from family, co-workers, and friends. As a result, he always looked for opportunities to pay it forward. Kent loved unconditionally and he will be missed. His example will continue to inspire us to be kinder and to leave people better than we found them. We love you Kooks! God be with you until we meet again.
