On December 3, 1932, LaRae Weight was waiting in the luxurious hair and full eyebrow line up in heaven, when she was whisked away early! In later life, LaRae often complained about having lousy hair and no eyebrows. She wore a wig or hair extension for most of her adult life. The doctor who delivered LaRae felt that she was more likely to live if she was brought early, unlike her older brother who had survived for only a few hours. This angelic blessing came into the arms of her father, Burtram Aaron Weight and her mother, Mary Lillian Stout. For ten years LaRae was her parents’ only and adored child. Then the family was blessed with her first sister, Maryann (Burnett), and then another sister, Nancy (Bennion). Dyslexia made learning to read a challenge for young LaRae. Her parents sent her to a private school, St. Mary-of-the-Wasatch, where she learned to read and loved the nuns who taught her. Next it was off to East HighSchool, where in her yearbook she was known as “Cuddles” due to a cashmere sweater (or so she said). “Cuddles” then became a Cougarette at BYU, but left school after one year to follow her heart back to Salt Lake City, because the summer after high school graduation she had met her eternal love, Roy Richards Silver. On June 12, 1952, they were sealed together in eternal bliss for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake temple.Throughout her adult life, LaRae was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in her home ward and completing three missions with her beloved Roy. LaRae was a master teacher with a gift for explaining gospel topics. Roy and LaRae served together for many years in the Salt Lake temple. LaRae also co-owned a business with her sister Maryann, where she used her creative talents as a wedding planner. In later years, her life was defined by her trust in her Savior and his teachings, and her love for Roy. LaRae’s pride and joy were her four daughters and four sons-in-law: Kristy (Lee Phillips), Laurie (Harold Pergler), Sherilyn (Greg Sorensen), Melinda Silver (Moisés García), along with her extended family of 13 grandchildren and 36 and ⅓ great grandchildren. She was an angel to the end, facing life with courage, determination, gratitude, and always accepting of the Lord’s will. She passed away peacefully into His arms and was finally reunited with Roy on April 26, 2023.
