Larry Fabert

“The race is not always to the swift but to those who keep on running” One of Larry’s favorite quotes which personified how he lived. Larry grew up in Kearns in a large family, roughhousing with his brothers and looked up to by his sisters. He had a strong bond with his mother and grandfather who nurtured his gentle spirit. As a young man he was an idealist and a hard worker, determined to “ make his mark on the world” He married his high school sweetheart Patricia Murdock and together had three daughters, Lisza, Terri and Gwen. Larry worked his way up in the grocery business and eventually joined his wife at The Jabberwocky, which became the family business. They raised their daughters with freedom and independence, a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. Larry shared his love of new ideas and personal development which influenced his daughters profoundly. The family shared a love of the outdoors; skiing, hiking, and camping in the canyons as well as Christmas trips to Hawaii. After 28 years he and Patty divorced. Larry was passionate about being active. He was an avid runner and cyclist, running in numerous marathons. In the 90’s he traveled to France and cycled the route of The Tour De France. He enjoyed spending time on his bike well into his seventies. In recent years he enjoyed daily walks with his dog Chai, at Grandpa’s Pond. Larry had other business ventures and also became a realtor. He met Erlie Smith at Bally’s Gym. They dated for several years and then married. They enjoyed hiking, fitness, love of the outdoors and spending time with “the kids” (pets). They left Salt Lake and moved to Southern, Utah, finally settling in Hurricane. Larry was genuine and a good listener. He had a way with people and yet was a very private man.In recent years he lived a simple life. Time spent with his animals or in nature brought him the greatest joy. He struggled for 40 years with a debilitating autoimmune disease and dealt with chronic pain. He faced these challenges with courage and a positive attitude. He was very curious and enjoyed learning. He loved books and researching on the internet about business, health issues or personal development. He was a proud American with a strong belief in Christ. Larry passed away at home in the care of his loving wife and family on March 5th, 2023. He was 80 years old. Larry was dearly loved and will live forever in our hearts!❤️ He is survived by his wife Erlie, his children Lisza, Terri (Jeff ), Gwen (Zach); grandchildren, Macall and Summer and great grandchildren Roman and Nova; Siblings Ivan, Patti, Carolyn and John. A service will be held March 17th at 10:00 am at the Peregrine Point LDS Church, 642 North 2850 West, Hurricane, UT. 84737. After the service, join us for a walk to honor Larry, at Grandpa’s pond, 350 N 3700 West, Hurricane, Utah 84737. In the spring his remains will be placed at Wasatch Lawn cremation garden in Millcreek, Utah.
