Lorraine Ashton Wilkinson passed away peacefully on March 23, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 20, 1927, to George W. Ashton and Alice Timpson. She attended Salt Lake City schools, graduating from West High School in 1944, where she served as Student Body Vice President. She graduated from the University of Utah in 1948 and taught school in Davis County and Salt Lake City. She married Homer Wilkinson on June 21, 1950, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They had five children, three sons and two daughters.
She was employed by Mountain Bell Telephone and later Blue Cross Blue Shield and the Utah State Senate. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served many callings, including Primary President, M.I.A. Stake Board, Primary Stake Board and Organist for the Church Auxiliaries and remained valiant throughout her life. She loved children, her friends, sewing and music. She played both the piano and organ and enjoyed composing and arranging music. A great joy for her was singing in quartets with neighborhood friends and her sisters Rowena, Jeanne and Linda. She sang many performances of the Messiah in The Salt Lake Oratorio Society. She loved the great outdoors, mountains, lakes and streams, boating and water skiing with her family. Two of her favorite places were Lake Tahoe, CA and St. George, Utah. Treasured memories were created at her childhood home on Capitol Hill and the Ashton family cabin in Little Cottonwood Canyon. She served an LDS Mission to the St. George Temple Visitors Center and Historic Sites with her husband in 2004. She was member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers – Terrace Hills Camp. Lorraine loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren deeply. She often remarked that when it came to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, it was quality that mattered, not quantity.
Survived by her children: Sherman Wilkinson, Georgia (Michael) Guarino, Clark (Janie) Wilkinson, Wade Wilkinson, and son-in-law, Dave Johnson; grandchildren: Rhett Wilkinson, Shelby Guarino, Davis Johnson, Blake (Katelyn) Wilkinson, Brenna Wilkinson, Grant Wilkinson and Weston Wilkinson; great grandchildren: Ashtyn Wilkinson and Luke Wilkinson; numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. The family would like to thank all the staff of Waikoloa/Oakridge assisted living center, especially Tasha, who spent so many days and evenings caring for Lorraine.
