Lydia Margaret Trevithick passed away Sunday, August 13, 2017 at the age of 97, in Sandy, Utah. Born December 24th, 1919 in Berne, Switzerland, to Friedrich and Bertha Lerch. Lydia was sad to lose her beloved father when she was 23. Lydia's brother and sister-in-law, Hugo and Dory Lerch, were a blessing to her; she was able to spend many years enjoying their love and support, including many skiing and hiking adventures in the Alps before emigrating. Lydia emigrated to America in the Fall of 1946 with her Mother, joining other family members who had converted to the LDS Church.
Lydia was married for 51 years to her sweetheart, William H. (Bill) Trevithick, who predeceased her. Lydia met Bill on a blind date in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1949. Bill was swept away by Lydia's beauty, charm, and intelligence. They married May 17, 1950.
Lydia learned to play the accordion by ear when she was a young girl. Her love of music was crafted over her life, and included a more than 50 year membership in the Swiss Chorus Edelweiss. Lydia played the accordion with the Choir for many years. Lydia had the honor of serving as Choir president for a period of time; service that she loved. Lydia's faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ is an example to her family, and all who knew her. She served faithfully in the LDS Church in many callings over the years, last of which was as a Visiting Teacher in her Branch at The Coventry. She also loved serving in her ward choirs.
Lydia dedicated her life to her family. Her children will miss being in her presence and enjoying the unconditional love she bore for them. Her sense of devotion to family, tenacious spirit, love of the outdoors, and a sense of adventure was passed on to all her children. Lydia's children Bill Trevithick (Susan), Kurt Trevithick (deceased), Lydia Renee Hoopes (Kevin), and Carol Franklin (Mike) are grateful to all those who took time to visit with, care for, and love their Mother.
Lydia is also survived by six grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. Lydia would never miss an opportunity to spend time with them if she could. Lydia is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who she adored.
Services for Lydia will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary on Saturday, August 19th, 2017 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, the 18th, and from 9:30 to 10:30 am on Saturday, the 19th. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery.
