Your Mom was an amazing person. She’s now at peace. There’s comfort in knowing that. Most of all having her husband by her side again. Again so sorry for your losses.

I visit taught and loved Marcella for many years. Here are some of her stories of her life.

"I grew up in Salt Lake City during the Depression.  My mother died when I was young, and my father had four children to raise.  We had a farm.  We all learned how to work and work hard.  My dad sold celery by the boxload, and his celery was used in V8 juice, a new product at the time.  When I was ten, my dad handed me a shovel and taught me to irrigate.  Our neighbors were Japanese and Chinese, and we had a schedule for when we could irrigate.  

"My dad learned to make hot bread.  We always had hot bread when we got home from school.  We didn’t qualify for free lunch, so I always had a sandwich for lunch.  Every day during the Depression someone would knock on our door asking for help.  Some we would give a handout like a sandwich.  Some would work for us pulling weeds or hoeing.  They came on trains going west for work.

"In our neighborhood there were five families that had only one parent.  We all drew close.  My friend Gus taught Adaline and Edna and me to play cards.  Gus’s father worked at the Hotel Utah and didn’t take care of his family.  The Strands were a family of seven children whose father left home.  The older boys joined the CCC and sent $5 per week home to help out.  

"Salt Lake City was a different city then.  There was running water with fountains.  At one time there was a “Tongan War” between the Japanese and Chinese.  The Chinese lived in Plum Alley, a street between Main and State Streets.  One time we dared to drive through Plum Alley.  It was scary, but they were nice people.

"After Dale and I married and had a family, my son was active in the Cub Scouts in Cottonwood First Ward.  Our son at one time had rheumatic fever and spent his time reading.

"My very good friend for many years was June Rabiger.  She was from the west side.  She and I would sit on the front porch and solve all the world’s problems.  But no one would listen."

It was so much fun to have known and loved Marcella for many, many years.  I am grateful she has now been able to return to her heavenly home and to again be with her beloved husband and other family. Much love and many fond memories go with her.
