Mark Christian Olsen (September 9, 1964 - March 31, 2025) was born into the loving family of Norman W. and Nancy Squires Olsen. Mark grew up turning curiosity into invention and kindness into action. He leaves a legacy of faith, craftsmanship, and generosity. After high school he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints in Austria—an experience he cherished which broadened his view of the world. He later completed a business degree through studies at both Brigham Young University and the University of Utah.
Drawn to adventure and service, Mark spent seven exhilarating years as a pilot in the United States Air Force where the cockpit honed his discipline, precision, and courage. When his military service concluded, he brought those same qualities home to the Salt Lake City area.
As a custom homebuilder he insisted on uncompromising craftsmanship—especially in the intricate woodwork he loved. Many of Utah’s most admired residences bear his signature touch and ensures a part of Mark lives on.
Mark loved his family and called the Holladay, Utah area home. He was a father to five children—Elle, Kristen, Phillip, Tanner, and Ashley—and a fierce advocate for their health and happiness. Nineteen years ago he married his soulmate, Shelly, who became the center of his universe. Together they traveled the globe, doted on their beloved dogs, and sought out memorable meals wherever they went.
Looking forward to a new venture, Mark and Shelly founded the SOHO Food Park in Holladay, transforming an empty lot into a vibrant gathering place where neighbors share good food and better conversation. The project perfectly reflected Mark’s gift for seeing potential and working until vision became reality.
Mark was a thoughtful and devoted son, beloved husband, loving father, caring brother and uncle. He will be remembered and missed by immediate and extended family members and friends.
Though our hearts ache at his passing, we find comfort in the promise that families are everlasting and in the tangible legacy he left behind—fine homes, thriving ideas, and lives made better by his kindness.
A private graveside service will be held at Holladay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to a charity of your choice or simply asks you to perform an act of kindness in Mark’s memory.
