Melvin’s life journey touched many, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of strength and resilience. As he was bravely fighting his final battle on earth, he was able to spend some special moments with his family.
Melvin was sealed to his first wife, Margaret Ella Smith, in the Salt Lake Temple on December 15, 1961. They shared several wonderful years and three amazing children before she returned to our Father in Heaven. Melvin found love again with Virginia LaNae Askerlund (“Gini”), marrying her on November 3, 2001. They created many happy memories together until she too returned to our Father in Heaven.
Melvin had a deep love for his sons, Richard and Randy, and his daughter, Cindie. He was always available to help them no matter the situation. His love extended to his grandchildren—Kamiah, Brittney, Clinton, Nancie, and Megan—and his several amazing great-grandchildren. As his family grew, he found a special place in his heart for each one.
In addition to being dedicated to his family, Melvin was also passionate about the great outdoors. He found peace and adventure while walking, camping, fishing, and hiking with his furry companions. His fondness for his dogs gives meaning to the title “Man’s Best Friend”.
Please rejoice with us, as he reunites with his family and friends in Heaven. Services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary 3401 S. Highland Dr., Millcreek, UT on 11/11/24. Viewing will be held from noon to one o’clock, with a brief graveside service to follow.
