Paul Fred Taylor, surrounded by his loving family, was called home due to complications from a sudden illness.
He was born in Salt Lake City to Fred and Ethel Taylor. He graduated from South High in 1942. In 1948 he married his sweetheart, Beth Black. They moved to Idaho Falls where he and Beth had six of their seven children. In 1956 the family was sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. They returned to Salt Lake City in 1959 where their last daughter was born.
Paul’s entire career was spent working in the automobile industry. While living in Idaho he opened the Avis franchises in Idaho, Wyoming and Montana. In 1959 he returned to Salt Lake City where he managed the National Car Rental franchise for 18 years. One of the highlights of his career was being The Chairman of National Car Rental’s Policy Advisory Committee. In 1977 he formed a partnership to purchase Budget Rent-a-Car in Salt Lake City.
He was proceeded in death by his first son, Gregory Paul, who died at the age of 3 ½. He was also proceeded by his father, Harry Fred Taylor, mother Ethel Braby Taylor and his brother Harold Ray Taylor.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Beth Black Taylor, children Leslie (Greg) Kesten, Mike Taylor, Joy (Craig) Rinker, Jim (Cheri) Taylor, Dave (Stacey) Taylor and Suzanne Taylor. He was adored by his 17 grandchildren and his 15 great grandchildren.
Paul had a beautiful bass voice and sang with the Utah Symphony Chorus and many Ward choirs. His family benefited greatly from his example of honesty, integrity and his strong work ethic. One of his lifelong passions was his love for golf and for those great friends he shared it with.
A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive. Funeral services will be held on Saturday the 18th at 12:00 Noon at the Brighton 8th Ward Chapel, 2895 E Creek Road, Sandy. Condolences may be sent to www.wasatchlawn.com
