We could not have asked for a better Dad, Grandpa or Great-Grandpa. We know that Mom and Dad are so happy to be reunited again! When they first saw each other, Mom shook her finger at Dad and said “Oh Dick! What took you so long?”
Dad loved his cars, we always had a nice, sporty T-Bird. Rear wheel drive, no snow tires, and let me tell you, driving through Wyoming in a ground blizzard to get Denver for Thanksgiving is pretty dicey! Dad loved his T-Bird’s until some misguided designers turned them into a generic sedan, then he switched Mustang’s.
We all have fond memories of family ski days. Don’t know how he did it, but he taught four of us to ski at the same time. More often than not we bought day passes and were the first ones on the lift and the last ones off the lift!
He got us all into riding dirt bikes and camping. We explored a lot of Southern Utah on bikes and spent many happy vacations in Goblin Valley and Kodachrome Basin. Mom decided that it wasn’t so much fun staying home and started coming too. On one trip to Moab, Mom was learning to ride her own bike. We were on a dirt road above the Colorado River where the road was flat and wide. Mom was headed for the cliff above the river. Dad ran and grabbed the back of the bike and dumped her over. She got up and said “Oh Dick! What did you do that for?!” Dad pretty much had her riding with him after that.
The cabin was a very special place for both Mom and Dad. Dad always made sure we had food to put out for the deer during the winter, and plenty of bird seeds for all the winged critters. We spent a lot of happy family time up there. Mom and Dad went up most weekends. We can still picture them enjoying a quiet morning drinking coffee on the deck.
Dad was always helping with someone’s project. He never ever told anyone no and always figured out how to get the job done.
Maybe our favorite thing about our Dad was his wonderful, dry sense of humor. Jessie calls it the “Special Grandpa Sense of Humor”. He loved to tease and always had a twinkle in his eye, and a mischievous little smile.
Our Father was preceded in death by our Mother Rosmarie Drury, his parents Edward and Ruby Drury and his sister Shirley Steed.
He is survived by his children, DeAnn (Kelly) Andersen, Colette (Jim) Madsen, Cary (Jeri) Drury, 7 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren and his brother Ed (Jill) Drury.
We miss you Dad! Say hi to Mom and find out how come she took so long to get your paperwork done.
