As a youth I delivered ice chips from an Ice Wagon Delivery.
I cut lawns, picked cherries all day for $1, and delivered milk each morning for .50 cents.
My family moved to SLC in 1936. I graduated from East High and was active in the athletic program, including being a member of the All City Football Team.
Just after graduation I joined the Army Air Corp. I was trained as a pilot and graduated as 2nd Lt. At 19 yrs of age I flew my first combat mission piloting a B-17 bomber based out of Foggia, Italy. During my time in WW II, I earned the rank of 1st Lt.
After the War, I attended the U of U and graduated with a B.S. degree in Business Administration in 1949. During my college years I was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.
I was a partner in starting A.J. Dean and Sons Ready Mix Concrete, Dean’s Dairy Farm, and Big Cottonwood Sand and Gravel.
I married Joan Ruth Dean in March 28, 1947. Together we had 4 children, Richard, Paula, Alan, and Christopher. I have 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
I loved fishing at Flaming Gorge; therefore, I built a summer home there for my family to enjoy.
My sweet wife, Joan, and I enjoyed a fishing trip in the NW Territories.
In 1989, I sold my interest in the ready mix company and started a real estate company.
Joan and I were members of the Olympic Delegation traveling to Birmingham and Budapest.
One of the greatest compliments I received in business was when I was told “You are the most honest business man that I know.”
