

Rodger David Kasteler July 1, 1935 - November 6, 2023 Rodger D. Kasteler passed away from complications of old age in his home surrounded by family on November 6, 2023, at age 88. Rodger is survived by his beloved wife Emma Lou Swinyard Kasteler, daughter Lynda Jensen (Christian), son Jeffery (Jodie), son Michael, son Lee (Luce), daughter-in-law Lisa Kasteler, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rodger is preceded in death by his parents, sister Marilyn, brother Orson aka Wally, and children Jennifer and David.
Rodger David Kasteler was born July 1, 1935, to Orson Walter Kasteler and Viola Sadie Peterson in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the youngest of three children and the last child born to Orson and Viola.
Rodger attended the University of Utah where he received degrees in Speech-Language Pathology and Pharmacology. While attending The University of Utah, Rodger played the drums in a band called the “Bluebird Band.” His proficiency at the drums led him to also play in US Army’s military band, although he never experienced active duty due to certain heart complications. After graduating from the U of U he committed to his lifelong career as a pharmacist in which he took great pride.
Rodger and his wife of 64 years, Emma Lou Parkinson Swinyard, met as kids living in the same neighborhood. Their love story continued through letters and photos while Rodger served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 19, 1959. Rodger and Emma Lou opened their hearts and adopted their 6 children Jennifer, David, Lynda, Jeff, Mika, and Lee.
Rodger lived his life as a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings throughout his life including serving a full-time mission in the California Mission from 1956 to 1958. His favorite calling, which he spoke fondly of, was serving as a Veil Worker in the SLC Temple, a calling he held for many years until the decline of his health.
Rodger will always be remembered for his love of God, his Savior Jesus Christ, and his loving family.
A viewing will be held on November 12, from 5-7:00pm at the LDS chapel on 4601 South Chapel Street (2565 E), Holladay, Utah 84117. On November 13th there will be an additional viewing between 10-10:45am followed by a Memorial Service from 11am - 12pm.
