1936 - 2023
Our husband, father, grandpa, and brother passed away peacefully on January 7, 2023, at the age of 86 with family members at his bedside in Bountiful, Utah.
Ron was born on February 7, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Gilbert Clarence Nobbs and Thelma Tate Nobbs.
He graduated from South High School and was later drafted into the US Army where he served honorably until he was discharged in 1964. After being discharged, Ron served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northwestern States Labor Mission in which he helped build chapels for the Church.
On August 20, 1971, Ron married the love of his life, Cheryl D. Johnson in the Salt Lake Temple.
After serving his mission, Ron got a job with a bindery company where he helped to bind books including many yearbooks for the High Schools. Later, he got a custodial job with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and took care of the buildings in the Parley’s Stake until he retired.
After retirement, Ron and Cheryl served a Fellowship Mission in the North Salt Lake Parkway Stake. After completing the Fellowship Mission, they went on to serve a Welfare Mission at Welfare Square in Salt Lake City.
Ron enjoyed going to Lake Powell on a houseboat with his wife and siblings and exploring the many canyons on the lake. He loved taking all of his family up to a friend’s cabin in Island Park, Idaho and going to Yellowstone National Park to see God’s creations including all the geysers and wildlife. Ron had a goal to find at least one bear on every trip.
Ron enjoyed being together at family actives. He enjoyed playing games with his family. He really liked playing a family game called pound the table.
He is very passionate about his BYU football. He had season tickets for nearly 20 years! When Ron could no longer go to the games, he made sure he had cable TV so he could continue cheering the Cougars on.
Ron is survived by his loving wife Cheryl and children, Ronald G. (Jennifer), Michelle (Karl Koeppen) and Richard (Alana) and his sister LaRae Bagshaw and 7 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Gilbert and Thelma Nobbs, his Brother-in-law Robert Francis, sisters Beverly Francis and Karen Nobbs and his daughter Mary Nobbs.
The family greatly appreciates the many healthcare professionals who took care of Ron during his short stay in the ICU at Lake View Hospital in Bountiful, Utah. They also thank the Foxboro 1st ward for all the assistance they provided Ron and Cheryl.
