

Shannon was born on February 1, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ruth Emma Brown and Liggett William Hopkins. She grew up in the Sugar House area surrounded by many cousins, friends, and family with whom she has shared a lifelong bond.
Shannon attended Highland Park Elementary and then Highland High School. She graduated from In the spring of 1963, She later took some classes at the University of Utah. Shannon married a long-time high school friend, Bob Skinner and in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They began their married life in Washington where Bob was stationed at McCord Air Force Base near Seattle. It wasn’t long before Bob received orders to Lajes Field on Terceira Island, Portugal. Shannon joined Bob for the last several months. Shannon and Bob later moved on to Los Angeles, CA where Bob worked for a computer firm, and they finally settled in Boulder, CO while Bob worked in the IBM community. This was a place that Shannon loved. She loved the beauty of the outdoors, her cats and dogs. She worked part-time as a teacher’s aide helping children learn to read, and she loved spending time decorating her beautiful home with many family heirlooms that inspired memories of her childhood, and family experiences.
Shannon and Bob divorced in 1984 and Shannon moved back to Salt Lake City where she continued to share many of her talents growing and taking care of plants in a local nursery, and at a nearby fabric store which brought out her “crafty” side and allowed her to share her knowledge of sewing and crafts. Before long she found her niche working in the records department of a local hospital. She loved the work and the people she worked with until it was time for retirement. Shannon spent 5 years in Provo before moving closer to her family in Colorado Springs, CO. Shannon’s time in Colorado was a. happy time for her. She loved walking the family dog, and would make numerous trips around the block each day, making friends along the way. She enjoyed going to the Denver Temple, and going out to eat afterwards.
For the three years of her life, Shannon lived in Lark Springs Memory Care Facility in Colorado Springs. She was loved by the staff who went the extra mile in the care they gave her.
Shannon is survived by her brother Kevin (Holly), two nieces, two nephews, many wonderful cousins, and special friends.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026 at 10:00 am at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary 3401 S. Highland Drive, Millcreek, UT 84106
