Shirley was born on February 4th, 1938, in Esmond, North Dakota to Tillie (Olson) and Clarence (Toso). She was the 7th of 14 children.
As a young girl, Shirley had no problem keeping up with all of her brothers. She was just as strong as they were, and faster, too. She kept that strength and athleticism throughout her entire life.
A skilled golfer, a sharp shooter, a bowling champion, an amazing cook, and an incredible dancer, Shirley possessed an undeniable air of competence. She kept a physically active lifestyle, gardening and lifting weights to keep herself fit. She never required assistance, and the year prior, was still able to lift her own suitcase up into the airplane's overhead bin on a family trip.
Shirley had an excellent work ethic, both in her professional life and in her personal life. She was a valued asset to Commercial Security Bank, having worked there for upwards of 20 years while managing over 15 employees. She was the type of woman who found success in everything she did.
In 1979, she married her love, Louis Freeman. They built a beautiful life together, where they saw their family grow, with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that they loved and adored.
Preceded in death by her dear husband and soulmate, Louis, her sisters, Gloria, Lorraine, Delores and brothers, Eugene, Sherman, Roger, and Stanley.
She is survived by her sisters, Joan and Sandra, and brothers, Marvin, LeRoy, Clarence, and Darrell. Shirley is also survived by her sons, Calvin and Chris Zettler, stepdaughter Lori Bodily, stepson Theodore Freeman, grandchildren Aaron, Dylan, and Justin Zettler, Chelsie and Nicole Bodily, Michael and Thomas Freeman, along with many great-grandchildren.
Shirley was a pillar of strength, and her memory will continue to inspire us every day. The family will hold a private service to honor her memory.
