Our loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away on May 10 after courageously enduring a painful, seven year battle with cancer which he fought to the very last moment. He endured it with faith and courage, always motivated by his unconditional love and concern for his family. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 10, 1963 to Roy and Bonnie Whitworth. Graduated from Cyprus High, class of '81. Pursued an athletic scholarship with Dixie College, and later attended the University of Utah. Steve was a faithful member of the LDS church.
He married Yvette Poulsen Larsen in 1985, later divorced. In 1991, married Shari Parkinson Shaw, the love of his life and best friend. Steve's four children were his joy. His influence will inspire them throughout their lives. His grandchildren were a great comfort and could always bring a smile to his face. He made each one of them feel special and loved. Steve never gave up on living life to the fullest and spending every possible moment with his family.
Steve was a natural athlete and was passionate about sports, in which he competed at many levels. His favorite sport was football, and was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed several activities; golfing, boating, fishing, and attending sporting events. He loved to support his nieces and nephews in any event they were involved with.
Steve was a brilliant and successful businessman. He started and acquired several companies, primarily Strategic Staffing, and most recently VitalSigns Staffing. He always attributed his success to the hard work and dedication of his employees, and in return was honored with their admiration and respect. One of Steve's favorite mottos was "work hard, play hard".
He loved to travel with his family to any place warm and sunny. His favorite destinations were Australia, the Caribbean, and Los Cabos Mexico, which he considered to be his second home. His last visit to Los Cabos was just a week before his passing, a memory that Shari and he will have forever.
He is survived by his wife, Shari; children, Darin (Marianne), David (Tori), Danika, Alexis; grandchildren, Kate, Will, Liam, Jack; mother, Bonnie (Don); siblings, Bill (Carol Ann), Sheri (David); as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Steve is preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
The family would like to give special thanks to; Dr. Gary Garner; Compassionate Oncology (Los Angeles, California); Utah Cancer Center, 2nd and 3rd floors; and the IMC staff for all of their compassionate care.
