Steven Leonard Zumbrunnen, age 72, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. Steve was born on June 25, 1953, and was raised in Holliday Utah. Steve was a loyal husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Jo Zumbrunnen; his three children Zac (Leah), Shawn, and Carly Kerby (Brandon); his fourteen grandchildren – Max, Brenna (Abbie), Quinn, MacKenna, Sofia, Sienna, Josie, Sami, Hannah, Mati, Henry, Jude, Georgia, and Ozzy, his brother Arnie, and his golf clubs. Steve was proceeded in death by his parents Calvin and Lucy Zumbrunnen, his sister Vickie McNeil, and his brother Corey.
Steve loved humor. In fact, he valued humor so much that he made “a sense of humor” a part of all of his children’s baby blessings. Steve also loved to tell stories. Anyone speaking with Steve would not leave the conversation without hearing at least one humorous anecdote about something that happened during his mischievous youth when he was being a troublemaker, when he had the chance to take a bully down a notch, or to relive the hilarious moments in his life that he cherished.
Steve was raised to be an outdoorsman, and he loved fishing, mountain biking, skiing, and shooting. More than anything else, however, Steve loved to golf. He golfed on the Cottonwood High School Golf Team and the Utah State Golf Team. Always self-deprecating, he said that he was “the thirteenth man on a twelve man team.” Steve’s favorite attire at any given time was a golf hat, a golf shirt, and Khaki shorts. Some people have to golf to make work connections. Steve felt lucky that he was often able to golf as part of his work in furniture sales. His closest friends were those that he regularly golfed with. Most Wednesday he could be found golfing at Meadowbrook Golf Course with the “Gary Group.”
Steve had golfing buddies, work friends, church friends, and neighborhood friends, but as far as he was concerned, every person that he met was a potential friend. He loved to talk to everyone and tell them his many funny stories. Knowing his friendly and outgoing personality, it is not hard to guess that Steve made his living in sales. Steve felt blessed to be able to use his tremendous charm and humor in sales, in order to support his family, which he always considered to be his greatest gift. Steve had a long and extremely successful career as a Furniture Rep, working for many years, with his wife, Jo, repping for Home Elegance.
Steve is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in many ward and stake callings throughout his life, from serving in Scouting and the Young Men’s organization, to bishoprics, to an inner city service mission. Steve loved to tell people that he led more than 90 individual young men’s/scouting camps.
Steve also loved spending time with his family. It was rare for Steve to miss a single drama performance, dance recital, choir concert, or volleyball game involving his children or grandchildren. We are excited that Steve will now have a new audience to tell all his humorous stories.
