

Sue is survived by her husband of 58 years, William Patrick (Pat) Scruggs, her son Samuel Dixon Scruggs of Salt Lake City and her daughter and son-in-law Sara Scruggs Anderson and Eric Douglas Anderson of Atlanta Georgia; and by six grandchildren, Samuel, Madison, Eric Jr., Brittany, Austin and Ashley, a great grandchild, Savannah, a sister, Katie Lou Nielson of Salt Lake City, a brother, Dixon Young Nielson of Logan, and beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Glen William Nielson in 1995.
She was born on December 19, 1932 in Richfield, Utah to Glen Walter Nielson and Hulda Young Nielson. After graduating with a B.A. from the University of Utah, Sue moved to California where she met Pat. They were married in 1958. They made their home in a number of states before moving to Salt Lake City in 1981.
Among her numerous activities, Sue served for 26 years as a docent at the LDS Church History Museum (f.k.a. the Museum of Church History and Art) from the time of its opening in 1984. She was also an active participant in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers until near the time of her death. She was an accomplished genealogist and family historian and had a keen interest in history and the arts. She delighted her family with her cooking skills, a talent noted in at least one article in the Deseret News.
Sue was an active and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a variety of positions in various auxiliaries at the Ward and Stake level, including as Ward president in the Young Women and Relief Society on more than one occasion.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 28 at 11:00 AM at Little Cottonwood Ward House, 6350 Rodeo Lane, Murray, Utah 84121. Viewings will be held on Tuesday September 27 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah 84106 and again on Wednesday at the location of the funeral services from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park will follow the funeral services.
