

Thomas Patrick Coyne passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026, after a brief battle with lymphoma. He was born July 18th, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He grew up on the west side of Salt Lake City where he attended Jackson Elementary and Jackson Jr. High before graduating early from West High. Tom attended the University of Utah where he received his degree in Business Management/Accounting. He began work at Mountain Bell but shortly thereafter joined the military and was stationed oversees in Japan during the Korean War. Upon returning from Military service he returned to Mountain Bell where he would meet and marry Claudia Francom. They were sealed in the Salt Lake temple on June 27th, 1955. He and Claudia had three children, Terri Lynn (deceased), Mark, and Kimberly. His position at Mountain Bell took the family to various places over the years from Salt Lake City to Albuquerque, New Mexico to Cheyenne, Wyoming and finally back to Salt Lake City where he retired with 40 years of service. Tom was a quiet example of service and kindness. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His joy was his family whether it be together for annual trips to Bear Lake or family gatherings at home. His favorite pass times included working around the yard, tinkering with old cars and playing golf. Tom continued playing golf once or twice a week into his 90’s. He and his golfing buddies would finish a round of golf with a trip to Wendy’s for a chicken sandwich and a frosty. Tom was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in various callings throughout his life but spent the majority of his time as financial clerk of many wards. He and Claudia served together for over 12 years in the Jordan River Temple baptistry. Tom is survived by his son Mark (Diane) Coyne, a daughter Kimberly Whitehead, 11 grandkids and 27 great-grandkids. He is preceded in death by his wife Claudia, daughter Terri Lynn Sellers, his mother, father and all three siblings. Funeral services will be Monday, May 4th, 2026, at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary. Funeral service will take place at 2:00pm with a viewing prior to the service at 1:00pm. Interment will take place at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
