“Uncle Dot”, as his nephews and niece called him, was known for his stubbornness, compassion and most of all his unwavering love for his family and his Savior. His father in Heaven called him home the afternoon of January 28, 2019 after 36 courageous years of battling many physical ailments.
Todd graduated from Granite High School in 2000 where he was the football team manager for several years. He proudly became an Eagle Scout with a magic marker project for Primary Children’s Hospital (a place close to his heart). He served a faithful mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints at the Salt Lake City Temple.
Todd had a variety of interests and made a serious hobby of photography. He was known to have fun with the nephews playing on the Xbox, talking cars and all kinds of gadgets. He would take Brooke and the nephews and niece to the movies where there was always an experience to be had. He loved to share his massive DVD collection with the family, even though he kept a list on the siblings. He often engaged in playful banter with his siblings and their spouses. He loved his parents beyond measure and enjoyed regular light hearted and deep conversations with them. He held fast to his faith and had a strong relationship with his Father in Heaven.
Todd will be deeply missed by his family. The courage, strength and tenacity he showed throughout his life deeply impacted all that knew him. We rejoice in the knowledge that our Savior in Heaven welcomed him home after “a battle well fought”.
He is survived by his Parents – Charles “Chick” and Glenna Shafer; Siblings–Brad (Holly) Shafer, Brooke Shafer, Travis (Kimmie) Shafer, Julie (Hugo) Omana; Nephews – Zack Shafer, Bo Shafer, Chaz Shafer, Benson Omana, Winston Shafer; Niece – Charlee Shafer.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 4, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Granite Park Stake Center, 601 East Mansfield Avenue, South Salt Lake, with a viewing prior from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at the church.
