William Lloyd Hale, 95 years young, died peacefully in his sleep at his home on November 1, 2014. Dad was born on February 6, 1919 to Herbert and Emily Bacon Hale in Salt Lake City, UT. He graduated from Granite High School in 1937. Dad married our mother, Vivian Sims, on May 26, 1941 and for the next 60 years raised a family of four sons, travelled and made many lasting memories and friends at their homes in Salt Lake and Yuma, AZ. Dad served four and one half years in the U.S. Army during WWII and was released from service with the grade of Captain. He was employed in the retail food industry most of his life, first with Safeway Stores and then as a successful food broker. He was a member of the LDS Church. Dad enjoyed working in his immaculate yard on Yermo Avenue, under the strict tutelage of his landscape architect, our mom. Dad also enjoyed being with family, especially with his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dad is survived by his four sons, Steven (Tamara) of Pahoa, HI, Sherman (Anne), Kim (Sue) and John (Vicki), as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Vivian, in 2001.
Dad and Mom enjoyed the winter months of their retirement years in the company of some of their closest friends at their home at Country Roads Estates in Yuma, AZ. After Mom’s passing, Dad continued to winter in Yuma and in his later years Dad was grateful for the companionship of Virginia (Ginny) Voss who was his constant companion and truly kept him young.
The family would like to thank the VA Hospital for the many years of professional and comforting care he was shown, Nurse Nancy of Access Hospice, Kerry Meyer, his other son and good friend who was his conversation partner and caregiver in his last days, and to his many friends that stopped by on their way to Yuma this fall to show their love and respect.
Graveside services will be Friday, November 7, 2014 at 11am at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park (3401 S. Highland Dr.), with an evening visitation from 6-8pm Thursday night at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Primary Children’s Hospital, the Kim Hale Golf and Retirement Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
