

Eileen Lavin Cantwell. (89 yrs) of Sound Beach, NY. Cherished mother of Edward Cantwell, Ellen Kretschmer and Dorothy Cantwell-McCabe, beloved by her sons in law, Bruce Kretschmer and John McCabe, her grandchildren and extended family, Jennifer, Jack and Daniel McCabe, Halley and Bruce Kretschmer Jr., Jill Kretschmer Rosenberg, Heather Kretschmer Haskell and their families. Eileen grew up in Woodside, Queens, graduated from Bishop McDonald High School, received a BA and a MA from Queens College and a postgraduate degree as a Reading Specialist from Adelphi University. She leaves behind many, many who enriched her life from Sound Beach, Woodside, Wantagh, The Valley School, Martin Avenue and Newbridge Road Schools where she worked for 30 years, and Marco Island, Florida, where she enjoyed the love and companionship of many friends and family members. Eileen was devoted to her son Edward, and they enjoyed dancing, traveling and hosting backyard gatherings for neighbors and long time friends. Eileen came to Sound Beach in 1932 and considered it to be Heaven on Earth. She was a longtime parishioner at St Louis de Montfort, served on the Board of the SBPOA for over 20 years and spent her happiest moments on the beach. Eileen raised her three children alone, guiding and inspiring them with her deep and devout faith, powerful strength, her joy and her gentle heart. She was a comfort to many who came to her for love and counsel. The family will be receiving visitors at OB Davis Funeral Home in Miller Place, on Saturday April 8th and Sunday, April 9th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral mass will be held at St Louis de Montfort Roman Catholic Church at 9 am on Monday, April 10th at 9:00 am. She will be laid to rest with her beloved son, Edward Cantwell, and her parents, John and Dorothy Lavin at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Coram, NY.
