

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ethel Balbina Halpin, aged 89, of Ridge, New York. Ethel peacefully departed from this world on Monday, February 19, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories.
Ethel was not only a beloved aunt, sister, and cousin but also a trailblazing feminist who shattered barriers and succeeded in a male-dominated field. With determination and resilience, she navigated through challenges, broke glass ceilings, and paved the way for others to follow. Her remarkable journey serves as an inspiration to all who knew her.
Despite the obstacles she faced, Ethel's spirit remained undaunted. She was an avid traveler who ventured far and wide, exploring the world with curiosity and wonder. Her adventurous soul found joy in new experiences and cultures, enriching her life and leaving an indelible mark on those around her.
Ethel's strong Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her life. She dedicated many years serving as a lector at St. Mark's R.C. Church in Shoreham, NY, where her eloquence and devotion touched the hearts of all who listened. Her commitment to her faith was unwavering, and her presence in the church community will be deeply missed.
Ethel also had a profound love for the community in which she lived, particularly Leisure Village. She was an active participant in the annual show, bringing joy and entertainment to her fellow residents. Ethel's dedication to Leisure Village extended beyond the annual event; she also served on the community board for some time, working tirelessly to enhance the quality of life for all residents.
Ethel is survived by her nieces and nephews: Christine Halpin, John Halpin, Theresa Jones (Eric), Patrick Halpin (Luz), and their families. She was a beloved presence in the lives of her 10 grandnieces and grandnephews, whose hearts she touched with her wisdom and affection. Ethel held a special place in her heart for her loving Great Grandnieces and Grandnephews, who brought immense joy and laughter into her life. Additionally, Ethel is survived by her cousins, who shared in her family's joys and sorrows.
Ethel also leaves behind her beloved pet and best friend, her dog Wally, who brought her comfort and companionship throughout her life's journey.
A visitation to honor Ethel's memory will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at O.B. Davis Funeral Home, 1001 Route 25A, Miller Place, NY 11764. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, February 26, 2024, at 10:30 AM at St. Mark's R.C. Church, located at 105 Randall Rd., Shoreham, NY 11786. Following the mass, interment will take place at St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx.
Ethel's presence brought light and warmth to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
May her soul find eternal peace, and may her family and friends find comfort in the cherished memories they shared with her throughout her remarkable life. Ethel's legacy of resilience, courage, and faith will continue to inspire generations to come.
