Maryellen passed away unexpectedly on November 25, leaving her sisters Maureen, Irene, and Christine, her brother-in-law Clayton and her only niece Janette, in shock. She also left behind her dear, and very special friend Paul. Our love for one another is reciprocal, and that helps to ease the pain.
Maryellen was a lifelong friend to those with whom she grew up in Brentwood, college friends from Morrisville College, early career in Brigantine/Atlantic City NJ, and finally her beloved NYC. She WAS a city girl! She was a "hands on" friend, always ready with a kind word, a card, a note, and her time.
Maryellen was behind the camera from quite an early age. Her passion for writing and photography helped shape her career as a photojournalist, and in Public Relations. She had our Mom's looks and our Dad's talent, and especially our parents' Faith. She succeeded at every one of her interests.
She was a real "rink rat"-- she loved all things hockey related, and ESPECIALLY the NY Rangers. Her first player-love was Gilles Villemure! She wrote for the Hockey Times, and was a statistician for the Brentwood Hockey Club. She knew the game inside and out. She made sure she did. She went to Long Beach and Westchester NY Rangers practice rinks, and snapped some amazing candid photos.
Maryellen fell in love with London, as well as the British Royal family. She had an eye for antiques and fine furnishings, and put things together in a pleasing and eclectic way. She was creative. She was original.
Maryellen had a passion for the arts and indie films, and was a lover of the Stony Brook Film Festival. It was a "can't miss" summer destination. Her identification and pride in her Ukrainian heritage fueled a deep passion for the people of Ukraine in later years.
She was a church Lector, a minister of the word of God, and this was one of her life's callings.
She was also immensely proud to have been the daughter of a Flight Engineer/Flight Instructor for the legendary Pan American Airways.
She was a proud Aunt who showed her cherished niece all the culture and interests NYC had to offer, from Radio City, to Carnegie Hall, to Broadway... and everything in between.
She was a cat Mom to Honey, from whom she felt unconditional love.
If she sounds amazing and irreplaceable, that's because she is. We all love and miss you Maryellen. You'll always be our Guardian Angel.
