It is with deep love and profound respect that we announce the passing of Robert A. Minton, Jr., who departed this life on Wednesday, September 23, 2025, at the age of 77. Robert’s life was a testament to strength, generosity, and devotion—to his family and the values he carried with unwavering grace.
Born on July 6 in Harlem, NY, Robert grew up with a spirit of curiosity and determination that shaped the man he became. He was known for his fearlessness, humor, wisdom, patience, and above all kindness, traits that would guide him throughout his life.
Robert built a career in Information Technology as a Computer Analyst, talk about how this was a first as an African American, where he was admired not only for his skill and dedication but also for the way he uplifted those around him. Colleagues remember him as friendly and wise, someone who led by example and never hesitated to lend a hand.
Beyond his professional life, Robert’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, whose love was felt in both the quiet, everyday moments and the grand celebrations. He cherished travel, train model landscaping, Sunday dinners, fishing trips, storytelling, holiday gatherings, leaving behind memories that will be treasured for generations.
Robert also gave of himself through his service to our nation. As a proud member of the United States Army, he answered the call of duty during the Vietnam War, serving with courage, discipline, and honor. His time in service shaped not only his character but also the values he carried throughout his life—loyalty, resilience, and a steadfast commitment to others.
Robert had a deep appreciation for life’s beauty, from traveling the world to surrounding himself with the things he loved. But beyond those joys, it was his generosity of spirit and devotion to others that defined the true measure of his life.
Those who knew Robert will remember his laughter that filled a room, wisdom that steadied others, hands that built and healed, heart that welcomed all. His presence was a gift, and his absence will be deeply felt.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Wanda Canales Minton; his children, Shaniqua Minton, Pearl Phillips, Nicole Minton, and Kyle Minton; his son-in-law, Damion Dixon; and his beloved grandchildren, Jarmal D. Young, Kymani Dixon, Kingston Dixon, and Kylie Minton, as well as the children of Shaniqua. He is also survived by his brother, David Minton, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and relatives who will carry forward his memory with love.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert A. Minton, Sr. and Estelle Reese Minton, and by his siblings Helen Minter, Florence Forman, Doris Brown, Charles Minton, Lillian Minton, and Robert Minton.
A celebration of Robert's life will be held at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes - Miller Place, located at 1001 Route 25A, Miller Place, New York, 11764, on October 2, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Friends and loved ones are invited to gather, share stories, and honor the remarkable life he lived.
A morning gathering is scheduled at the same venue on October 3, 2025, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am.
The committal service will take place at Calverton National Cemetery, 210 Princeton Blvd, Calverton, New York, 11933, on October 3, 2025, from 10:30 am to 11:00 am.
