You may have known him as the proud owner of the beloved landmark restaurant Savino’s Hideaway. Many called him “Mr. Savino,” some knew him simply as Sam. Three were lucky enough to call him Daddy. Ten more had the honor of calling him Nonno.
To know Savino was to know perseverance, fierce loyalty, and an unwavering work ethic. His life was the embodiment of the American dream—a man who arrived with little, built something lasting, and never forgot where he came from.
He was a man of opportunity—not just for himself, but for others.
His restaurant was more than a business; it was a lifeline, a home, and for many, a starting point. For countless people, Savino’s Hideaway was their very first job—a place where they learned the value of hard work, the power of community, and perhaps most importantly, their own worth.
He offered food, laughter, shelter, and stories steeped in history. He gave everyone a fair chance, always wanting others to have the same opportunity to build a life and legacy that he had fought so hard for.
No matter what life threw his way, you could almost always catch him smiling, laughing, or singing. His joy was contagious, his presence unforgettable.
He had a voice that could command a room or warm it with a song or story. He filled every space he entered—not just with his presence, but with his heart. He lived fully, loved deeply, and gave generously.
A cornerstone of his extraordinary life was his marriage to Rita, his beloved wife and partner in all things. Their love story was magnetic—so visible and so sincere that even strangers could feel it. They complimented each other beautifully, especially on the dance floor, where their connection reflected with every graceful step. The romance never faded, even after 65 years of being side by side. Their love itself is a legacy.
Savino was, and always will be, a tremendous man. Even these words cannot fully capture the depth of who he was, but we write them with love and gratitude, in hopes they carry a piece of his spirit forward.
He leaves behind a family who adored him, a community that respected him, and a legacy that will live on for generations.
