After a prolonged illness Alice E. Olson, New Brighton, MN, has gone to be with her husband Don on Monday February 24th. She died peacefully in her sleep in Hospice care at Benedictine of Innsbruck in New Brighton, MN.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband Don.
She is survived by her son, Eric and Nephews Keith and Scott.
Alice attended and graduated from Southwest High School in Mpls and with her interest in art, she attended the College of Art and Design in the Commercial arts program. That is where she and Don met. Don was enrolled in an Industrial art course. They became friends, sharing many interests and they were married in 1956 and had a son Eric in 1962. Alice had been a commercial artist for many years before having their son Eric and continued to be a freelance artist for many years. Alice and Don both enjoyed many outdoor activities together including hunting and fishing and for years were active in the MN Springer Spaniel Field Trial Club. Alice and Don enjoyed fishing trips to Lake Kabetogama. That's how Eric developed interest in the art of catching walleyes. Don had promised one day that the family would take up skiing. When Eric was about 7 and showing an interest in skiing they started their Saturday ski days at Trollhaugen Ski Area in WI. Alice took lessons from a ski instructor/cousin and Eric became a member of Blizzard Ski School. A number of years later, they both explored becoming Ski Patrollers at Wild Mountain in Taylors Falls. Passing all the tests, they began patrolling in 1980. Alice always had a healthy supply of fresh baked goods for all patrollers even after she had stopped skiing and was given the patrol nickname of “Mom” from all on the patrol.
The family would like to give heartfelt thank yous to the wonderful Palliative and Hospice care nurses and attendants for the tender care given to Alice throughout her illness.
Memorial Service will be held at Sunset Funeral Chapel, 2250 St. Anthony Blvd. NE, Mpls. on Tuesday, March 3 at 11:00 with visitation one hour prior.
