Eugene A. Johnson "Gene"

He was born on October 6, 1932 to Albin and Frances Johnson and graduated from Southwest High School and the University of Minnesota Pharmacy School. He married Marlys Mattson on June 25, 1954.

Gene "Mr. J. " spent 60 years of his working life at Burch Pharmacy, starting out as a delivery person and eventually becoming a pharmacist and owner of the store. He was part of the business until its closing in 2010.

He was an active member of Park Avenue Covenant and Crosstown Covenant Churches.

He enjoyed spending time at his lake home in Annandale, winter trip to Florida, fishing trips with family and friends in Canada and fall trips to Duluth and Lake Superior.

Preceded in death by his parents, Albin and Frances; and his beloved dogs, Brady and Scotty.

Survived by his wife of 61 years, Marlys; son, Mark (Devon) Johnson; daughters, Diane Johnson (Frank von Poppen), Kathy (Barry) Giddings, Patti (Mark) Swenson and Karin (Stephen) Bariteau; 10 grandchildren and their spouses; 6 great-grandchildren and his beloved dog, Cody.

The family would like to thank the physicians, nurses and staff at Abbott Northwestern's Heart Hospital 4th floor for their professional and compassionate care.

Memorial service 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Crosstown Covenant Church, 5540 30th Avenue South, Minneapolis with visitation one hour prior. Private interment Sunset Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be directed to Covenant Pines Bible camp, Crosstown Covenant Church or donor's choice.
